    thank you

    • QTPtutorialnet

Hi Ikbol. Sorry for the trouble. I fixed the issue. Please take a look and let me know if it persists.

  • Ikbol

    its good now, thanks

  • Ikbol

hello, have you noticed that “reading from file” section on VBscript learning course, first and second videos are the same(unit6 and 7), can you upload the second one if you have or make a short video about reading from file. Thank you

    • QTPtutorialnet

Ikbol, thank you so much for reporting this. You are awesome! It is fixed and the correct video is uploaded. Let us know if you need anything else my friend!

Hello, I have a problem with QTP 12. It’s not possible to record a click on a date picker or an icon button. how can i resolve this problem please.

    Thank you.

  • Richard

Hello, I am following the recording of a test for UFT; in this you have a line such as

    Browser(“QTPtutorial for Beginners”),Page(“QTP tutorial for beginners”),Link(“Sign
    Up”).Click

My question is, when writing the script, isn’t there a way to specify the browser that you want the link to open in, like IE or Firefox and so on within the code which I just pasted above?

    • QTPtutorialnet

      Hey Richard,

Thanks for your question. So just like with any other automated testing software, you first have to initialize a driver(aka browser). In the case of QTP/UFT, you have to initialize a browser first before you can start doing anything.

THink of everything in terms of real life application. Before you can start manually testing a web page, you have to open a browser. To do that with UFT, use

      SystemUtil.Run(“iexplore.exe”,”www.qtptutotial.net”)

Now you have a browser object. With it, you can start to test the Browser object and every element inside.

Let me know if you have other issues.

    Hello!
I wanted to see if I could get some feedback on this book, and see if anyone on your team (or on this site) is familiar with it?
Designing and Implementing Test Automation Frameworks with QTP by Ashish Bhargava

    • QTPtutorialnet

Hey Susan, fantastic question. I do not think that any of us have read this book. Here are my initial thoughts. What are you attempting to achieve? Maybe I can recommend something. When we were first starting out, we were reading everything that we can get our hands on. Actually, we do this today, but we are more cautious as I have learned that there is a lot of bad information out there. I do not think that it would hurt you much to read it. You always learn something from everyone. If you have ANY questions, feel free to come here for advice and we can talk about what you read. I would be interested to hear. Hope that helps 🙂

      • Susan

Thanks. I was looking for resources specifically dealing with how to’s and tips for building a framework.
I went through the videos you offer and they’re great but I wanted to find something in print that I can reference more easily.
If you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate them.

        • QTPtutorialnet

Yea, I understand that print is nice to have as well. We are working on converting all of the videos to text so that you guys can access it. Sadly, I don’t know any good resource for this. This was the reason I actually started the site. Because nobody was sharing any information and I had to master everything on the job.

One proven framework design is using the ‘Page Object’ pattern. You may want to look into this. There should be a lot of information for this. Probably not for UFT. But you can convert the concepts into VBscript and it will work just fine. We will be teaching this in the near future and we will do our best to get everything in print.

One thing I will strongly recommend is that you stay away from frameworks such as Keyword Driven. They worked in the past, but there are much better approaches to create frameworks these days. The ‘Page Object’ design pattern is one of the best.

          • Susan

Thanks very much! Every bit of advice I can get is appreciated!
I’m not familiar with the Page Object pattern at all, so once you get those tutorials completed, I’ll be watching.

We have a “framework” of sorts at the moment, but it is a data driven framework. One that is not working well – if at all. There is no real driver script either.

I’m a “team” of one right now, in a company that had no prior QA Team. We use both HP ALM & UFT.
Therefore, I’m trying to research and read as much as I can. Daunting, to say the least.

            • QTPtutorialnet

Data Driven framework is one that i have seen partially work. It is great whenever you actually need to iterate through data for every test case. But it is not very flexible and only applies to very few situations. I would be interested to know how it works at your company.

Yea, your situation is typical and tough. I was in that position once. Again, why i wanted to start the site.

Do you have access to our Premium membership?

In the syllabus, you can see this section, shows the architecture of a KDF – “09-Live webinar on creating a Keyword Driven Framework with QTP”

This should also help to give you some awesome ideas.

“07-Real time development of a Keyword Driven Framework with Unified Functional Testing”

I need to give you all a complete course on all of this. But this content should help you with many aspects.

              • Susan

I do have the premium membership.
Didn’t you state above to stay away from keyword driven though? I’m a little confused.

I’m working through the framework tutorials, and have watched a few of them a couple of times! =)
                All good stuff.

My biggest problem is finding a starting point. I’ve never done anything like this before and starting over from scratch is very intimidating.

                • QTPtutorialnet

Sorry for confusing you Susan. Let me explain better. Everyone in the QTP world used to try to create a KDF. That is what I did for many years. As my knowledge and understanding grew, I kept on improving it. As of today, my opinion is that there is almost no need for a KDF unless you are automating on a gigantic team where you want manual testers creating tests. Even then, I believe that the current framework that I have is light years ahead of the KDF. It makes test design much easier and resolves many problems.

So for your needs, I would recommend the following. If you follow our advice, and that is your choice, you should go with what we teach you. Right now we have videos for the KDF. So you might as well implement it as version 1. It’s ALWAYS better to have some testing than no testing! Either way, this will be the best KDF that anyone has ever implemented.

In the future, after MANY months. You can begin to make updates and move into a more efficient pattern. We will teach that later.

There is a lot of bs on the net about the different types of Frameworks. And it’s just BS. There is one framework that fits almost all needs. I have been using one framework for all my jobs and i just keep making improvements to it.

The videos I listed, especially the webinar ones show the framework architecture for this. Just try to replicate it using your knowledge.

If you want to describe your application to me and how it’s used. I can tell you where to start.
